  Who is Jenny Wiley?

My Dulcimers are named after a local hero, Jenny Wiley. I chose this name because of the walnut wood I use in my instruments.

I recovered a downed walnut tree in Carter County, Kentucky and transported it to a local saw-mill. The saw-mill operator noticed a big "splotch" of blue paint on the trunk of the tree. He was afraid it might have been a tree used in a fence-line and refused to cut the logs until I made sure the tree was "nail and fence free."

When I contacted the farmer of whose property the tree was recovered, he told me the blue paint had been placed on the tree when it became one of the many trail markers on the "Jenny Wiley Trail." Thus, from that time on I have called my instruments "Jenny Wiley Dulcimers."

Many have asked, "Are you still building your dulcimers from that tree?" The answer is "No." That tree has long been gone, the Walnut material I am using today came from a tree I removed from the front yard of Mr. JR Adkins in Cannonsburg, KY.
