Craftsmanship

One of the finest qualities of the mountain dulcimer is its individuality. Each instrument has its own unique voice.

Each Jenny Wiley dulcimer has loop end stings, geared tuners, Free Playing The Mountian Dulcimer Made Easy Book, and flat pick. (We offer a total of FIVE Different styles and price ranges of dulcimers.)

Building the dulcimer collage The Sound Box:
I typically make dulcimers in a modified teardrop style but also build the more commonly seen hourglass and teardrop soundbox models as well. Although the shape of the soundbox doesn't substantially affect the sound of the instrument, I feel the modified teardrop style is most in keeping to the spirit of the traditional instrument built in the hills of eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia.

Frets: I use the standard traditional fret design. I now include with each dulcimer and kit the more modern 6.5 fret.

Finishing: I finish with a hand-rubbed polish resulting in a sweet, warm, mellow sound to the instrument.

Finishing and shippingTuning: Each instrument is tuned and tested before it is shipped. I "tweak" and adjust every dulcimer for the best quality sound possible.

Shipping: The instrument is then packed carefully for shipment. Included in the package is a thin guage flat pick.
