Mr. Lambert: I finished your Jenny Wiley a couple of weeks ago. It turned out very nice. I did add a tail piece for decorative purposes only. I had an odd scrap of walnut in my shop so I cut it to fit on the end. It looks very nice with the gold strap pin attached. The sound is fine and is getting better all the time. I adjust the nut a little about every week, gradually bringing the strings down closer to the frets. I don't want to hurry this process. I purchased this kit because I wanted a dulcimer in my collection that sounded very traditional. Currently I use Ionian DAA tuning and mode on this dulcimer. Somehow I think this instrument will really sound good in Aeolian, DAC. I am not changing the tuning very much right now, allowing the instrument to settle in. I am very pleased with this instrument and I know it will deliver the sound I expect. If I go the Aeolian mode, I might change the guage of the strings a bit to brighten it up. However, I am very satisfied with the sound right now. I have always like the unique style of this instrument. In fact, that was the first thing that attracted me to it. I used the finish method you recommended and it looks great. The combination of the yellow poplar with the walnut is very nice. I would highly recommend your product to anyone seeking the more traditional look and sound. It also fits very nicely across my lap when I take it outside to play. Good luck to you and I am sure you will sell many more instruments. |
