MARK SHARES SOME VERY INSIGHTFUL TIPS AND COMMENTS! Hi Jeff! Well, here are the photos of my finished dulcimer. I used a belt sander for the initial shaping, an electric grip sander for the next step, and a final finish sand by hand. I used crocus cloth for the final sanding. When I installed the tuning peg section I found that it needed a little bit of shimming to make a better fit, so I used some pieces of cardboard from a matchbook. I found that a tie down strap made a great clamp. My finish of choice for most of my woodworking projects has been danish oil, so I decided to use that here as well. I was going to use almond oil or lemon oil for the fretboard, but I didn't have any on hand and decided just to use the danish oil. I own a bicycle shop and also sell musical instruments and supplies, so, in addition to playing it, my dulcimer will be on display in the shop. I'll let you know what people think of it and hopefully will generate some orders for you. My luthier friend has been very impressed with the kit every step of the way. Thanks again for a great instrument that was easy and satisfying to build. |
